I am now available for family and child photo shoots in Dover, Folkestone, Canterbury and Ashford. A session fee of £50 is required which covers my time during and after the shoot. For bookings made before the 30th July, £25 of this will be reimbursed as product credit.

I have taken great care in sourcing the highest quality suppliers of wall art, and prints whilst maintaining a fair price. Us Mummies/Daddies have a lot of juggling with the finances to do so I understand we can't break the bank when it comes to photography for our little ones, no matter how much we'd like to! That is why I strive to offer competitive, fair pricing with high quality prints starting from as little as £10.

On Sunday, thanks to the wonderful Juliet McKee, 32 photographers got together at Virginia Water Lake Surrey. It was a fabulous day. It was inspiring, immense and obviously amazing fun! I meet so many wonderful, friendly and genuine people and this is just another reason why I am in love with Twitter!

The wonderfully fun and talented Anneli Marinovich was a joy to meet...

I was totally worried about the lack of light at my sisters house before I went to shoot my perfect little niece, so I am very relieved I managed to do her justice. It didn't take much though as let's face it, she did all the hard work. A little bundle of gorgeousness, and yes I got many cuddles. I keep imagining her and Rufus growing up together and I think they will make the perfect cheeky monkey mischief making duo :) These pictures make my heart melt, I hope you feel the same.

Hello everyone. Well I am sure you have found yourself here through a tweet or a Facebook post and firstly I would like to say thank you. I would like to be a little cheeky and ask for my twitter friends to help me in a critique of the below shoot, or share any tips or advice on taking the first steps into business. I am on the verge of launching my new website and have been tirelessly practicing location shoots so that I can be confident that I will be able to deliver no matter what the lighting conditions. I am so very nearly there, I need to pass my driving test and buy some new kit and I'm ready to go...well so I hope! I am not afraid to admit that it has taken me a couple of years to get to this point, both with my technical skills but mainly my confidence. I am a slow burner what can I say! I often wish I had the personality to take more risks but I am working on that, and I will do this when I am ready (which I feel will be soon).

I have always been inspired by Vicki Knights photography among many others, but I like the way she shoots mainly families and children, this is the path that I would like to travel down as this is the area I feel I am best at and most comfortable. I have recently been inspired by Vicki's wonderful head shot sessions and as I have been practicing location shoots I decided to try my hand at one. My poor husband is freezing in these shots, he looks grumpy bless him but I prefer to say he looks 'moody' ;)

I am sure you can all relate to the journey of becoming pro, or maybe you are at the same stage as me. If you have any friendly critique, tips or advice please please share, I want to be as prepared as possible. My aim is to start business in the next 6 months and during that time I will line up many more shoots to become as prepared as possible. Please bear in mind that I am working with...right I'm kind of embarrassed...a Canon 400D and nifty fifty lens..as I said I will be getting new kit before I start.

I'm going to get mushy here: Twitter has been a constant source of support to me, I am grateful for all the amazingly friendly and talented photographers I have met on there! And who would of thought there would be so many tog mummies! Thank you for not turning a blind eye to me because I am further behind on the journey, thank you for helping and inspiring me to move forward! I really don't think I would have got this far without immersing myself in the inspiring shoots you all post on your blogs.

This is my Sister's maternity shoot :) Yes, I will have a little niece or nephew to snuggle with very shortly and Rufus will be meeting his first cousin ever!

As she is the most stunning and beautiful woman I wanted to do her proud and give her photographs she can look back on and smile at. The out door ones were taken on Christmas day, she asked 5 minutes before the sun went down if there was enough light, well I made a pregnant woman run in the snow I am ashamed to admit! I had been nagging her for weeks to get the shoot done so I wasn't going to waste the opportunity! Anyway, I hope you enjoy them and I will keep you posted on the arrival of her bundle of joy. It's been a while since I blogged, feels weird to be doing it again! Yikes, how long has it been? Well yes, I thought it too late to blog the Autumn photos I took of Rufus playing in the leaves, actually I'll add them to the bottom of this post! They are too cute to sit on the hard drive. But here is a snap of my darling baby boy giving his Daddy a kiss...makes my heart melt.

So whats in the pipeline for 2011? First and foremost DRIVING LESSONS! After I have over come that little hurdle then the world is my oyster! I have a website that's so very near completion so watch this space, it should be up and running early 2011. Until then I hope you all enjoy the festive season, that the snow isn't causing too many problems for you and that you have a productive, happy and rewarding 2011. Take care xxx

Kelly Moore Bag = Love

I have had my eye on a Kelly Moore bag for a while now, these are no ordinary bags! Hell no! They are camera bags for women (they do a range for style conscious men as well).

I want to take my camera every where with me but most of the time lugging my DSLR and a couple of lenses isn't at all practical and the choice for women is very limited. I have a great big huge Low pro rucksack but that hardly goes with my outfits now does it?

I can not explain to you how in love with these bags I am! I want the B-Hobo in mustard yellow, the perfect bag for small family shoots, this bag will change my life, enable me to carry my camera with me every where I go whilst not advertising the fact I have expensive gear in there. So please dear husband, this is at the top of my Christmas list and I promise to cook your dinner and do your washing for a year (oh wait I already do) ;)

My sister has become mummy to a little rascal :)

A beautiful Labrador puppy called Dizzy. I had to take photos because when I got my sparkle kitten I only took a few and now she is a grown up princess cat and I wish I had taken more. Dizzy is going to be a handful you can tell but he has magical powers to make anyone that cuddles him fall in love with him instantly. And no it's not just because he is super cute, he's a special soul.

It has been lovely and hot this weekend. On Friday we took a walk to the woods, but it was proving too far for the little man so we settled for a rest in a meadow instead. Pure bliss, I made sure whilst taking all these photos that I took a step back to breath and appreciate the beautiful moment. He is my angel.

Chimaera Exhibition

I finally got the photos back from the 'This is England' Exhibition which I was a part of at Chimaera Gallery in Folkestone at the beginning of last month. It was a fabulous night and Lynn made me feel really welcome, she is a lovely person who puts her all into her work and who made me feel really welcome.

I was lucky enough to have my work shown along side Glenn Fitzpatrick. That is his back in the picture below, blue collar (I was too nervous to talk to him) and below that is his awesome sculpture. Check out his paintings though, they were a particular favorite of mine.

How to have my living room?....The sofa is a done deal arriving in 8 weeks. Hmmmm thoughts anyone?

I'm preferring the last one so far. The first one was playing it safe and my husband said he wanted some orange in there (I want this decoration to be one we both take part in). So the 2nd mood board is a little over the top orange, where the last one I think has a balance of what we both want from a living area.

P.s That table is not small, it will be the dining table I just haven't decided on the chairs yet...to get all matching or a mix of vintage chairs all reupholstered in the same fabric to tie them together.

oh and where is the sunshine? This Easter weekend is gong to be a 'wash out' according to the weather forecast! Eurgh please... I can't wait any longer just give me the sunshine!

oo yes the postman has just knocked at the door with my wonderful blue vintage suitcase! I feel nervous to open it. I might save it to make the excitement last longer....expect lots of pictures soon! I have had a good day, it feels like such a weight off my shoulders!

I dropped off three prints to a gallery this morning and the owner really liked them. I am so relieved about finally getting some recognition, it felt validating and I needed that.

So yes, on the 23rd of April I will be an exhibiting artist (in a group show). I can't wait until the opening night, I can't wait to take my wonderful husband. I'll just slip in that the mayor is coming to this opening, like you do :)

*sigh* sometimes all this hard work pays off and it's all worth it.

p.s These are my £1.99 celebration flowers. I don't often buy flowers I think they look best in the ground but as it was a special day and I wanted to photograph them, I made an exception.

Nana Rose

My nan was amazing, head strong and kind, I always had a special bond with her.

I set out to take a picture of all the pretty things I have yet to unpack and quickly realised everything pretty I have used to be my nans or reminded me of her.

She was Maltese and the lace and buttons are from Malta, my mum and sister took a trip over to visit our family after her death and to scatter her ashes, they brought me back those wonderful buttons.

The glass swans and fan were my nans and are typical of the hundreds of things she used to hoard and then be desperate to give to us when we visited...I got the hoarding gene from her for sure!

I have a china cat (which didn't quite fit in the picture, maybe it deserves it's own photo).

I remember the day I asked her for it (it was about £1 at a market somewhere) she said as I was getting a big girl I could have it because I was old enough to look after things like that. I was thrilled as that meant maybe she would let me have an ornament from her china cabinet one day. I did look after it, it has a place up high in Rufus' nursery :)

It will be 2 years in may since she passed. She missed my wedding by 4 months and never got to hear I was getting married (our engagement was a quick one). She missed my Rufus bear entering the world by a year. She would have loved him so much and been so proud of my little boy.

I love you nana and when Rufus grows up I will tell him all the stories of your incredible life xxx

Hello peeps, sorry I have been away for a while, Mr Rufus Bear is growing so fast and its hard to keep on top of a lot of things at the moment. He is changing all the time and its wonderful to see but bloody hard work! :)

So This blog post is filled with some awesome news! My talented sister has finally opened her Etsy shop selling the most wonderfully detailed hand painted beads. She has spent so much time working on finding a craft she loves and it shows through in her work. I am very proud of her and so have dedicated this post to her because she needs as much exposure as she can get. Her earrings and necklaces are unique and priced very well for the time and effort that has gone into each piece. So here is a sneak peak of her work that is available here:

In other news I will soon be offering a lower price point in my shop as I will be selling ACEO trading cards of my prints. I have the most beautiful 250gsm photo rag which is perfect for printing ACEO and has a high percentage of cotton which gives the paper a watercolour paper texture. I will update the blog when this is available. Until then, I hope everyone is happy and well and that Christmas preparations are going along with the minimum amount of stress possible! take it easy xxx

I go to see Muse once every year, this is a ritual that is in its 3rd year now and Friday was my annual trip :) We went to the O2 in London and I must say I was not impressed with the venue and I think they weren't really feeling it this Friday. It was a shame because I waited a year for it but such is life I still got to see Matt bellamy. His trousers were the shade of blue that you get on the days were the clouds are at their fluffiest and his trainers sparkled like they held a million twinkling stars, he is an angel and my obsession with him i admit is quite tragic. Undisclosed desires was awesome though, I knew when I heard it that the radio could not do it justice, it was made to be played live and did not disappoint. I took my Holga to remember the feelings, to capture the essence of the night and I can not wait until I get my first roll developed but I am aware that it is pretty much trial and error with your first roll on a Holga so I will try to suppress my excitement. Knowing my luck I will ruin the film when I try to take it out of the camera lol. In other news my little man has his first tooth starting to show through, it surprises you the knowledge you gain as a new mother, before I was pregnant I was worrying about all the new things I would have to learn but things seem to come naturally, I had a sneaky suspicion last week he would be teething soon, even though he is only 4 months and had no symptoms, I just got a sense. He gave us his first proper full on belly laugh this morning when we were getting him ready for his bath, I'm lucky my husband gets to see these moments.
I had a sale in my Etsy shop also which I am happy about but I would be lying if I said I don't think I should be getting more sales, i need to sit down and make some tangible business plans. I'm thinking I need to other a larger selection of price points but then I do not want to under sell the photography I work so hard on so maybe I will start making ACEO's, Digital college sheets, or greeting cards. Hmmm tell me what you think? what would you like to see? I'm holding out that my newly found love of film will set the ball rolling in my shop because I am quite excited about the ideas I have in the pipe line but we will see.

4 months (well nearly)

I can't believe Rufus is coming up to 4 months old. It feels a life time ago I was pregnant! Him getting older is scary, this parenting malarkey seems to have a running theme! Now that I'm not constantly worrying about the here and now (IE a time bomb crying baby, cot death, dropping him, I could go on) its time to worry about the future! ekkk is he developing properly? What am I going to do for a career? how will my life progress from here etc and also slightly disappointed I am no where near returning to my pre-pregnany figure *blushes* If anything I'm getting worse! Anyway, amidst this crazy roller coaster of a ride I try to stop and breath....appreciate my little angel. He takes my breath away and when I'm not worrying about the numerous accidents that could happen we have the bestest fun together. My gorgeous little man at 4 months is my world, it was a slow burn but we are bonding more and more each day... and here he is :)

My gorgeous Holga arrived in the post a few days ago. The 35mm film adapter however is no where to be seen (bloody postal strike). I'm not sure i have the energy or creativity to use it to its full potential at the moment anyway. Winter depresses me, and as predicted dark clouds are not just floating in the sky, they are in my head. This picture sums it up.

p.s we are revamping our study/nursery with ikea billy bookcases and a room divider so hopefully very soon i will get the space to make my photographic necklaces, yayyyy. So its not all bad as i am slightly obsessed with Ikea and their clever storage solutions :) Order will clear my mind!

Ekkk I'm so excited! I have found a tangible name for the style of photography that I adore and have been seeing everywhere, I can now research it to my hearts content which suits my curious nature... It is LOMOGRAHPHY! Now I know that most people have actually heard of this but somehow my wasted time on the Internet (facebook grrrr) had left me blind to its wonders up until now.

So as its winter and my creativity goes out the window this time of year I bit the bullet and brought a yummy gold holga! It is perfection and I love it a bit to much already. I have to wait weeks for it to be delivered now boooo! I am so excited, I have brought a 35mm film adaptor for it but this is making my brain hurt as there is so much to learn with film. I don't care though, the rules of lomography state 'don't think, just shoot!' and also 'there are no rules' so even if I do overlap on frames with the adaptor It might just might make for one of those miracle shots :)

She will be the start of an obsession I can tell. When budget allows I've already got my eye on a pink Polaroid, a 2 lens and 4 lens robot camera,a fish eye, and a golden half...ummmm. Ooo I could go on but you get the message....EXCITEMENT HAS BEEN REVIVED!

A New Look?

I have been playing around with a few ideas for a new banner and also I can not seem to get my head around making this blog look nice so decided to try a word press one.

Feedback is definatly needed here! Let me know what you think of the new banner and stuff. It still needs some work and I have another Idea to try out first but would love to know what people think.
I dont really want to leave blog spot but on word press I can basically have my own webpage which looks pretty cool. Plus its a nice place to keepa a professional portfolio, instead of directing people to my flickr which is very informal.

Good News

I haven't been online for a while, I defiantly underestimated the work involved in having a little boy, when ever he sleeps I don't have the energy to do the things I need and he is such a good boy who sleeps really well!
So the news I received last week has really lifted my spirits. I have been pre-selected by digital camera magazine for there photographer of the year 2009 competition. I couldn't believe it! Out of all the people that entered my work caught the attention of the pre selection panel. It is such a huge achievement for me as I had been questioning my own skills during a lull of inspiration (but then that's what a baby newborn will do to you I suppose). So even if it goes no further than this just to have got this far is great news for me.

Now all I need to do is sort out the new house so it is workable and organised! Make the photographic necklaces that I have brought the supplies for and take many more photos!

During the surge of energy that arose after my good news I decided to contact MOO about designing for them so fingers crossed on there feedback because I am actually in love with all there products!

Anyway, I have noticed that people are still coming to my blog even though I have been updating regularly and I appreciate that, so thank you to all that stop by to visit and I promise I will try my best to keep my blog updated in the future. I just have to get back in to the swing of things. All my love to you xxxx

A blast of light

This week I have listed two original TTV prints at Louisa Rose. 'A blast of light' and 'Girl' are limited to a run of 100. They are vintage inspired portraits created by using a digital camera to shoot through the lens of an antique camera, in this case my Kodak duaflex II. Also new products will be showing up on my Etsy page over the next few weeks. I have just received the materials to make beautiful photo pendants and once I have perfected the technique of putting them together they will be up on my Etsy. I'm really excited about these pendants as I have been wanting to use my photography in jewellery and accessories for a long time now :) Now I just have to decide which photos will look best in my jewellery. If you have any favorites please let me know.

In other news, Rufus is 7 weeks old today and smiling like a little angel. I can't wait to hear his first giggle, my beautiful man is growing so fast!

Hospital Induction

Just a quick note, everythings still really busy with the new house but we are doing well. Rufus has decided to stay put so I am booked in to be induced tomorrow morning. We don't have the internet at the new house (and I have realised I can't live with out the net) so I will be away for a while but will update as soon as possible. Fingers crossed I will be blogging about my beautiful healthy newborn, take care xxx

NEW HOUSE

We managed to get the keys to our house a week early and have been desperately trying to decorate so we can move in asap. Its been so stressful as I am 7 days over due with our first child and I think I will have to rest soon as its not doing me any good. I just want it all ready for Rufus, its catch twenty two because I need to really be looking after myself so Rufus has a safe journey into the world. So I will be taking it easy from now on and if its not finished by the time he is born its not the end of the world. I dont want to be induced in hospital though, I really want it to be a relaxing experience in the birthing centre with a pool and my own midwife, if he is not here by the 14th I have to go into hospital to be induced and the thought of that is really scaring me. Anyway we need to get loads done by friday as the carpet fitters are coming then, but our friends and family have been so great in helping so it should all get done.

Also, tomorrow is the due date of our first child. I have no idea when he is going to come but the waiting is making me feel rather strange. We are going to look at a house later today and I'm so excited to think that in 2 weeks I will have a baby boy and hopefully a house to put him in! I went to the boot fair yesterday as we can't really afford new nice things, but I love boot fairs and managed to buy the most beautiful original watercolour painting of some pink blossom. I LOVE handmade, and will blog about my great find asap. Until then, I hope you like the mosaic and take care xxx

Cute cute cute! Some beautiful creations that I have come across on my Internet journeys this week. Actually love the deer pin cushion, nautical tissue holder, house embroidery and of course the porcelain tea cup and saucer. It really had caught my eye and it seems that I will have a lot of saving up to do so I can afford some of these little treasures.

In other news I am 39 weeks pregnant today! Feeling excited but don't want the pregnancy to end. Can't wait to met my little man but because Ive had such a great pregnancy I know I will miss the feeling of being pregnant. Everyone says to me 'oh I bet you can't wait to get it over with, can you?'.....I can wait a little longer. Just until my little man is especially ready for this world. I also need to get more pregnancy portraits done asap, I never want to forget this time or regret not taking more photos.

Today we had the best news!
I have been preparing my mind for not being able to nest properly and not having our very own home for little Rufus for a while now. But today we have got news that we will be able to move into our own home in mid july! I am so grateful and happy that the first precious few weeks of my little mans life will be spent in comfort and in a house that im ready to fill with love and many memories. I can also concentrate more on my photography as we will have our own space to work. This day feels surreal, we are a very lucky family :) I love my husband and my bump immensly x

Want to know how I got this effect?

I thought I'd share what I have recently learnt with others about using textures in floral photography. Also Ive noticed that when looking for textures on the Internet to use in your art everyone wants credit? This annoys me as all they have done is taken a picture of some linen or concrete etc So please feel free to use the texture I have used here for whatever you like with out the condition of crediting me! Its hardly rocket science to take pictures of bricks and paving is it? hee hee

so anyway here we go! This is the original picture I used, Ive watermarked this one in case you want to use it to practise with, but it would probably be better for your learning to use your own flower picture because then what you end up with is all yours :)

So after importing this to photo shop I duplicated the layer (and named it background copy) so I now have 2 layers of this picture.

I then imported this texture to photo shop:

So now I have all the layers I need. I then went to the 'layer style' section on the texture layer and then to 'blending options' where I applied the layer at 'normal' with 33% opacity.

I wanted the roses to be different colours so I also went to the background image (original image) and boosted the saturation so it was really yellow, then I went to the background copy and gave it a pink hue and boosted the saturation again. Its all a case of using the eye icon on the left hand side of the layer to see how all the layers are coming together individually and separately until you find a mix of colours that you like and what feels right for you.

to get the yellow colour to show through from the background I highlighted the background copy (now a pink colour) and used the rubber tool set to opacity 45% and flow 44% using the rubber with an airbrush brush and rubbed away where i wanted the colour to come through, a bit like painting. And that was about it, I haven't set it all out in stone because when i process my photography like this I never have anything set out in my mind I just go with what colours look better to me whilst adjusting the hue and saturation.

I hope this has helped you out, I'm self taught so some of my processes won't be perfect but I wanted to share how I made this picture so others can maybe learn. Comments and feedback are more than welcome, I'd love to hear if I have managed to help anyone with there processing skills as tutorials helped me out when I first started and in fact they still do!

Scientific Illustrations

I have recently become slightly obsessed with Victorian Illustrations, particularly those used to catalogue the natural world. As I love Charles Darwin I have been trying to find a copy of his book on barnacles which was apparently heavily illustrated but on this journey I came across an artist born in the 1700's called George Knorr, he illustrations blew me away and I want his prints of seashells to take pride of place in my bathroom. But at £210.35 each I was contemplating trying my hand at drawing something similar myself....imagine my happiness when I discovered I could get his prints for approx £20 from art.co.uk! Yayyy...But I think I'm still going to try my hand at catalogue style illustration in the future....

Etsy Packaging

So I was trying to come up with creative ways to package my photography, this is what I have come up with so far. Still a way to go but its a start that I'm happy with :) I'm debating weather to use a coherent packaging line in my signature colour of baby pink, or individually tailor each package with the colour theme of the photograph which has sold? This is what I have come up with using the latter idea.
